Considerations |
Dear BIN Partners, Berklee is now beginning the new school year. The entering students are knocking on the door and we are seeing the fruits of our labor in their excitement and optimism. This experience is shared by all of us in the BIN each year, as is the feeling that our own individual musical paths are parallel to theirs. We understand them because we were them. I want to personally thank you for the work you do within our shared vision for contemporary music education. It has been clear to anyone who has traveled to your schools and to all of us who work with you on our various projects and initiatives, that the BIN has developed and evolved beyond anything we could have imagined. As a matter of sharing, I have some “soft numbers” on international enrollment for the fall. These are excellent numbers we can all be proud of. On behalf of your colleagues here at Berklee, I want to share some thoughts and feelings with you, now that this year’s summit is behind us. These summit events are particularly important to us at Berklee because we get to have face time with each one of you. I know the same is true for you as you renew your associations and friendships with you network colleagues. The personal relationships among our partners – which have been established over the years, and our common believe that music can be taught through contemporary musical idioms, present in our respective countries – have created a unique vision that unifies us. In the midst of all the meetings having to do with business and information, the most fundamental and important reason for the summits is to periodically renew our personal associations. As we go forward, our basic values and commitments towards our students and their education remain unchanged. We will continue our work with you, our partners, who have cultivated the same educational values and commitments around the world. New challenges await us, but we haven’t forgotten where we came from and who was with us along the way. I want to acknowledge our collective dept of gratitude to Larry Monroe, Lee Berk and Gary Burton. The BIN was their vision, realized and shaped through their hard work and dedication. Larry has now officially assumed his new duties in the Valencia Project and I have begun my new duties as the head of International Programs. In addition, I will be heading the Curriculum Transfer Agreement Steering Committee CTASC, which administers and regulates the Articulation agreements for the BIN partners and other articulating colleges in the US and abroad. I want you all to know how happy and privileged I feel to be working with you in my new role. I see great opportunities ahead for our partnership. We have strong support from Larry Simpson and Roger Brown; a dedicated, hard working staff in the Office of International Programs; and, off course, you - a group of enlightened educational partners with a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. Thanks for all you have done on behalf of music students and their creative aspirations. ________________________________________ ”The initiative of the agreement Berklee & Souza Lima supports, with a lot of quality and competence, the formation and professionalization of the student of music in Brazil.
